Digital Nomad & Points Based Visas

Have you been waiting to live in South Africa while you conduct your work remotely? The country has officially opened its arms to you. Much sooner than expected, the latest amendments to the Immigration Regulations have been published. Details are still being awaited, but if you work remotely for an employer outside of South Africa and earn at least R 1 million per year, you might be able to secure a visa for up to 3 years, and bring your family along.

The points-based work visa system has been introduced by name, but it remains to be seen how this is intended to function. Factors like age, qualifications, language skills, work experience, offer of employment, and “ability to adapt in the Republic” (however this may be defined), will be considered. Many questions remain open in this regard.
