Zim exemption

ZEP Discontinued, 12 Months Grace

After 13 years of various exemptions for Zimbabwean citizens living in South Africa, Cabinet has decided not to extend their latest version, the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP), beyond its expiry date of 31 December 2021. However, holders of ZEP permits will be given a 12-month grace period in which they may apply for any of the ordinary visas, presumably from within South Africa. If they do not qualify or otherwise fail to secure a visa, they have to leave the country by 31 December 2022. A formal directive laying out the exact conditions is being awaited.
