Since the amendments to the immigration laws of 1 July 2005 the chartered accountant’s certificate is required only in connection with applications for temporary or permanent residence permits of investors, business owners or self-employed persons. In other categories it may be included voluntarily.

Generally speaking, the certificate serves as proof of available financial means and of other requirements being fulfilled. It is to be issued by a South African chartered accountant in a specific prescribed format.

IMCOSA advises its clients on the required documentation and proof to be submitted, performs translations, if applicable, and liaises with the chartered accountant in order for the required certificate to be issued.
