As per IMCOSA's last newsflash persons waiting for a decision on a current application, and whose previous permit has in the meantime expired, are fined when leaving the country, and need a visa or visa exemption if they want to come back. This directive by the Department of Home Affairs has now been partly put on hold until 30 April 2014:
In response to massive protest received, persons who were allowed to leave without a fine will be re-admitted to the country without the need for a visa or visa exemption (only until 30 April). However, persons needing to leave will still be fined.
The discussions with senior officials are continuing. In the meantime, we recommend that those who need to leave, accept notification of the fine and appeal the decision afterwards.
