New Critical Skills List

New Critical Skills List Coming: Improvements for Engineers, University Lecturers and Veterinarians

The Department of Home Affairs has updated the critical skills list, as confirmed by the Director of the Department`s Corporate Accounts Unit in workshops held to address this topic on 28 and 29 September, 2023. Expected changes look to benefit engineers, university lecturers and veterinarians and be implemented as early as next week. Engineers – critically needed in South Africa and yet up to now largely denied visas due to administrative hurdles – now have much better chances to secure work visas. Veterinarians have been included in the list, and university lecturers will benefit from certain exemptions. Additional flexibility will apply to a range of other categories. Further details will be shared once the list has been published.
