The Department of Home Affairs has taken a welcome step towards further simplifying visa and immigration processes.
As per Ministerial Directive on 8 July 2026, applicants for permanent residence in general, and for temporary visas submitted within South Africa, no longer need to provide a medical certificate as part of their supporting documents.
This means that you no longer have to obtain your medical certificate from your doctor when preparing for your application for permanent residence, or for a long-term visa when applied for from South Africa.
