Hope for Govt Service Delivery
Sacci lauds service delivery contracts - 5 October 2010
The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) on Monday welcomed the signing of service delivery contracts by government officials across the country.
"This is a major step forward in holding officials accountable for service delivery failures," Sacci said in a statement.
Last week, a number of MECs and mayors signed service delivery agreements with Co-operative Governance Minister Sicelo Shiceka
"Countrywide, Sacci chambers of commerce have had poor experiences relating to sanitation, water and electricity supply and infrastructure maintenance which has been exacerbated by recent strikes."
Sacci said these chambers looked forward to improvements in these areas and other aspects of local government responsibility.
"Sacci believes that the example set by Tongaat earlier this year in establishing a delivery improvement forum on which all stakeholders are represented is a positive development that should be emulated by all local authorities."
The chambers of commerce affiliated to Sacci would welcome the opportunity to serve on such forums.
"These developments provide... a constructive method of building the nation and of improving the economic environment in South Africa."
